Gresham
Gresham village is made up of two parts lower Gresham and Gresham village. The village name originated form the stream known as Gur or Ger, which was the source of the water for the mill dating back to the 1800's in Lower Gresham which produced wheat flour. The legend of the golden Grasshopper on the village sign goes back to Thomas Gresham 1519 - 1579 who later became
the finacial agent to Queen. He was abandoned as a baby and was found by a local lad due to a noisy grasshopper who was protectively sitting on the baby's chest. Thomas adopted the sign of the Grasshopper motif as a reminder of his humble beginnings.Gresham is now a popular village with its own village Hall and a wonderful church and still has a village school.
